toxicity alert! know the 7 types of plastic and which is the most dangerous! | the times of india - polycarbonate
01/97 kinds of plastic, which is the most dangerous!
With China banning the import of plastic waste, the world is talking about banning the use of plastic or at least minimizing its use.
When we look around, from our water bottles, glasses, watches, clothes we wear to our bags, food containers and even furniture, nothing is plastic.
Plastic, however, drives our lives. these plastics are not exactly the same.
Plastic polymers used in the manufacture of plastic consumer goods around the world have seven classification codes.
Which one is the worst from 02/9 to 7?
1 to 7, which is the worst?
It has now been determined that the identification codes for these seven plastic resins have different levels of toxicity.
Although, the best way to do this is to completely avoid using plastic, there are some codes that are safer than others if you have to use it.
In general, code 2, 4, and 5 are better than code 1, 3, 6, and 7.
Below is a list of products that each code contains.
03/9 avoid: Code 1 it contains polybenzene diester (
Pet or Pitt or polyester).
Some products: polyester fabric, bottled water, beer, juice, mouthwash, jam, etc.
Containers for microwave plates, detergents and other household products. PET is known to dissolve antimony oxide and benzene ester.
Both are dangerous to health.
While antimony may lead to the development of cancer, skin problems, problems with menstruation and pregnancy, phthal acid salts are endocrine disruptors.
04/9 relative safety: Code 2 this code contains high density polyethylene (HDPE).
Some products: opaque containers of polyamine, milk, juice and water, some medicine bottles, shampoo and washing agent bottles, grain boxes: Although it is generally considered safe to have a limited number, studies have shown that, code 2 plastic can filter non-ethyl phenol, especially when exposed to the Sun, which is an endocrine disruptor.
05/9 avoid: Code 3 this code contains PVC (
V or vinyl or PVC).
Some products: PVC for toys, packaging, etc. , bottles for mouthwash, shampoo and squeeze bottles, oil tanks, shower curtains, for floor, carpet backing, leaf adhesive, wire insulation, window frame and other building materials, medical tube, blood bag: it is the most toxic and harmful kind of plastic.
Containing Double phenol (BPA)
Lead, benzene, Mercury, dioxin and cadmium.
It can cause endocrine disorders, ADHD, asthma and allergies in children, and is also considered to be carcinogenic, leading to various types of cancer, such as breast cancer.
If it is burned, it releases dioxin, one of the most toxic chemicals known.
They cause cancer and are organic contaminants.
06/9 relative security: code 4It contains low density polyethylene (LDPE).
Some products: film applications, groceries, bread, frozen food and garbage bags, beverage cups, squeeze bottles, food containers, Wire and Cable: relatively safer, however, it is well known, especially in the sun, endocrine disruptors nonylphenol are released.
07/9 relative security: code 5It contains polypropylene (PP).
Some products: food containers such as cheese, yogurt, ketchup and syrup, bottle caps, straws, baby bottles, diapers, sanitary pads, many parts in electrical appliances and cars: this type is relatively safe and stable, but plastic additives can be filtered and related to the cause of occupational asthma.
08/9 avoid: Code 6 this type contains polystyrene (PS).
Some products: egg box, food packaging and container, disposable tableware, CD and dvd, medicine bottle, Hanger, test tube, smoke detector, leather tableware: code 6 plastic can also present benzene as a chemical in second-hand cigarette smoke, known as a carcinogenic substance.
It also affects the nervous system and the brain.
Some studies carried out in animals have also shown that plastic coded 6 can harm the lungs, liver, genes, and have a negative impact on the immune system.
09/9 avoid: code 7It is called another (O)
Refers to all other plastics, containing polycarbonate (PC).
Some products: water bottle, water container, baby bottle, CUP, baking bag, tomato sauce and juice container, glasses lens, car parts, cd, dvd, laboratory equipment: the plastic of PC can filter the double phenol (BPA)
This is an endocrine disruptor that can affect estrogen.
It can affect the sperm production of men and the chromosomes of women, can lead to the interruption of puberty, affecting a person's behavior, immunity, neurological function and even cardiovascular health.
It is also carcinogenic in nature and can cause breast and prostate cancer.
It is also associated with infertility, diabetes, obesity, metabolic disorders, and chemotherapy resistance.
